Chi Mu Omega Chapter

Mound Bayou, MS

On July 12, 1887, Isaiah T. Montgomery and his entourage of twelve men literally carved out the nation’s oldest, all Black municipality and called it Mound Bayou, Mississippi.  Forty-nine years later, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® located the Mississippi Delta Health Project in the town, and on December 6, 2003, history was once again recorded in Mound Bayou.  Sixteen former Pearls of Wisdom Interest Group members became charter members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Chi Mu Omega Chapter, by the 22nd South Eastern Regional Director, Cynthia J. Finch.  Held at the Lampton Street Church of Christ in Mound Bayou, the charter members were:  Dorothy Smith Bass (Ivy Beyond the Wall, March 16, 2007), Nancy Mosley Bonney (Ivy Beyond the Wall, January 3, 2020), Geraldine Conway Grammer, Gwendolyn Bass Green, Louise Herman Hemingway, Erma Lucas Inge (Ivy Beyond the Wall, August 9, 2010), Brenda Nash Key Brooks, Marilee Lewis Lucas, Vicki L. Lucas, DeVoyce Campbell Morris, Tammie P. Norton, Eulah L. Peterson, PhD, Michelle L. Porter, Tashika Sellers Lindsey, Carla Lucas Wiley and Lottie Howard Williams.
Marilee L. Lucas (2004-2006), DeVoyce C. Morris (2006-2010), Nancy M. Bonney (2010-2014), Louise H. Hemingway (2014-2018), Dean Epps (2018-2020), and Lucinda Carter (2020-2022) have served as chapter presidents.  The current president is Annie Y. Griffin.   
In addition to the three deceased charter members, Chi Mu Omega Chapter’s other Ivies Beyond the Wall are Esther Ruth Smith (August 9, 2012), Pamela D. Tucker (September 9, 2017), and Tracy Williams (December 1, 2020).
Chi Mu Omega Chapter continues to shine as a beacon of light in the Mound Bayou community through its international and local programs of service.
